With Windows Mobile 6, you have the option of using the built in MSN messenger to talk to your buddies. A lot of people, including myself, don’t use Hotmail based e-mail services, and an unfortunate side effect of even trying out the built in MSN messenger is the addition of “Windows Live E-mail” in the messaging application. On the T-Mobile Dash, when you use the right softkey to pull up options such as “Settings” and “Delete”, the “Delete” option is grayed out, so its almost as if you’re stuck with that.
Thankfully, deleting a registry key fixes the “issue” some of us face and removes the Windows Live E-mail option from the messaging application.
Using Total Commander (or any other registry editor), find the following key:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\Windows Live

Note: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE may show up as HKLM on some devices, like the Dash.
Delete the key, and restart the messaging application. The “Windows Live E-mail” option should now be gone. Note that it will return once you try using MSN Messenger again (or any other Windows Live service built in), so I recommend using something like Shape Services IM+ for an IM client instead.

Hello Samad,
Finally someone who found a way to get rid of that blasted windows live on a WM6 device!! I have the new Moto Q9H and installed windows live not realizing I couldn’t delete the darn thing. Obviously none of the documentation tells you that once you install the darn thing it’s on there forever.
My question is: Does WM6 come with a registry editor? I haven’t been able to find one on my phone’s OS… which doesn’t really surprise me (clearly MS doesn’t want people tweaking their defective OS).
If there isn’t one on the phone then what registry editor are you using and where can I get it? Of course I’m hoping it’s freeware.
Thanks.
Karen
Hi Karen,
As far as I know, there is no built-in registry editor in Windows Mobile 6. The registry editor I used was a part of the Total Commander software found here: http://www.ghisler.com/smartphone.htm – its completely free. There’s also a Mobile Registry editor that allows you to edit it from your PC instead of having to do it on your phone, but I can’t seem to recall where to find it. Hope that helps!

Hello Samad,
I followed your instructions and am happy that the windows live email is now gone…..
On the home screen, the email message counter is still there next to the text message counter. it is the only remaining part of the the windows live email install. can i make this go away?
Thanks
Dave,
The e-mail counter is actually part of the homescreen. To remove it, you would need to edit the XML file associated with the homescreen. The file is located at \Application Data\Home\ THEME NAME.xml
